Ta DAAAAAAA!

Many thanks to Amanda and her crew of Techies for your unfailing patience! Especially with students like me who are trying to make thier brain cells work between the hours of 12P.M. and 6A.M.(Which was when I did most of my lessons!) Honestly I did learn a lot. I think mabey I can alsmost keep up with my kids now. I wish I could have spent more time on each lesson though. I was rather fast tracking, but hope to go back and have a look again. I'm hoping that workshops will be offered to keep up-to-date. The drop ins were a great help (when I could go). I think for Circ/Reserve staff, because it came at our busiest time of year some like me felt rushed. It depended on other duties as well. It was very difficult to find time at work to complete the course.
I'm feeling a little more comfortable now with the web. Facebook was kinda cool. I might look into putting a photo album on to share with out of town friends.(Now that I know I can make it private and not splash my kids all over the net!) FireFox is next on my list to explore a little more. I definitely like it better than internet explorer. I'd like to have some time to get onto
Second Life. If its the up and coming new tech for us, could you offer workshops on it?
Will I Blog after this? Probably not, mabey for work purposes. I'd like to play around with Wiki some more before we're thrown into it a circ, so I may be calling on you Amanda. Morris Bookmarklet was really impressive. Its great learning whats going on around us and who's been working so hard at what. Great job done by all.
I would definitely participate in another discoveries programme. I'd like to see it offered in workshops as well as online(if your unable to get to a workshop)
Have to get some work done, so gotta go.......Again, thank you so much Amanda, you and your team are amazing.

Done, Done, Done!!!!!!!!!

Finishing up Week 11
Entered the world of Firefox. I was concerned about installing on home computer...but Kelly has me more informed about security etc. I'm hearing that alot of people prefer FireFox over internet explorer. I'll install at home and see. The best part that I can see so far is that add-ons are free!
MORRIS bookmarklets is way too cool! I'll be showing the kids that one.. and using myself.

Hello week 11! Just what I've been looking for!

HELLO WEEK 11......I'LL BE GETTING BACK TO THIS ONE, HALF TONIGHT, HALF IN THE MORNING. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR. THANKS AMANDA!
I PLAYED AROUND IN FIREFOX AND ALTHOUGH IT LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING WE MIGHT USE AT HOME, I WAS HESITANT TO INSTALL RIGHT NOW. HAVE TO CHECK OUT COMPUTER CAPACITY FIRST.
I FOUND WINDOWS MARKET PLACE VERY INFORMATIVE. SOME OF THE ONES I LOOKED AT AND THOUGHT WE COULD USE WERE:
CHILD WEB GUARDIAN
POP-UP-BLOCKER
WINDOWS DEFENDER
PARENTAL CONTROLS
I'VE BEEN LOOK FOR JUST THESE TYPE OF SITES TO INSTALL ON HOME COMPUTERS.
MY HUSBAND AND I WILL HAVE A MORE THOROUGH LOOK AND INSTALL AT A LATER TIME. THANKS FOR THE INFO. (THANKS TO AMANDA; WE'RE ALL
LEARNING!) ALL OF THESE ADD-ONS FOR INTERNET EXPLORER ARE VERY EXCITING AND COULD BE A GREAT HELP...WE JUST HAD TO KNOW WHERE TO FIND THEM.
OTHER ACTIVITIES TO BE EXPLORED AT WORK TOMORROW. AVOIDING DOWN LOADS AT HOME...UNTIL THEN
GOOD NIGHT
Week 10! ...and I'm blogging at 12 A.M. However, now your talking my lingo!
I've actually played around with games...guess I'm not as far out in the back 40 as I thought I was. I usually play with my friends from Sturgeon falls on-line(just getting into that) or we play up north when we're together. One particularily addictive one is Ravenhurst, MCF Huntsville and Myster Case Files (Titanic). my youngest and her friends usually likes to go to www.addictinggames.com where there are pages of them. One they've just go into is Bookworm Adventures on Yahoo. The 17 year old is into the Sims games and my husband is into the virtual 3D blow'em up smash' em games like Commando and Red Alert! that I know of. He's another addictive one. I try to stay away from them because I've found .....mom can get addicted too!
and then nothing gets done! :) It's too nice outside now to be playing games, rather be playing in my gardens......Lord help my little addictive groupies if I find them with a lap top Up North on the beach! :)

Week 9: Mom's doing what the kids are not allowed to!

Week 9: My space has been banned in my house! Numerous problems reported in the news and via schools and parent networking about my space. Now I've found out they've probably just bounced to facebook etc. Facebook is more popular (and mabey a little safter)than I thought.Found out many friends Up North(my home away from home)are on. So I guess I'm thinking I'll play around in that a little more. As much as I hate to admit it, I found My Space a lot easier to use and move around in (if your new to the technology). I added a picture to facebook, but I'm staying away from My Space..thats all I'd need...for my kids to go on....and there's mom! :)

Week 8: Online Applications & Tools-Oh,Oh...this stuff's addictive

Week 8: Online Applications and Tools
O.K., now your reeling me in. Google Documents has all kinds of possibilites. I can see our family using it quite a bit.(kids probably do already!)
I had a lot fun with Snipshot. That could be addictive and rather time consuming(so I found out!..who doesn't like to play around with your prictures)
Library Thing was amazing! I'll be back to check that out more thoroughly when time permits.
LastF.M.: I think I've finally found my "computer radio" My music for a change - everything I like to listen to at the click of a button - better yet no commercials and talk shows!
Thanks Amanda

Tagging, social bookmarkingand folksonomies(Wk.5)

O.K.....After Amanda got me set up, I started playing around. I've been at it for a couple of hours and I'm still trying to decide if I'll use these tools on a regular basis or not. I found Delicious interesting. I'll need to play around a little more....when I have about 8 hours! One advantage I can see is helping my youngest surf the net for info much faster. Flickr...well I was unable to do from my computer at work, I'll try at home. I'm beginning to think its easier just to email pictures. I'm moving on...
